RESIDENTS hoping to run for council can throw their hat in the ring from tomorrow.
Nominations open at 9am and close at noon on Tuesday, September 25. Nominations must be made in person at the council offices, 8 Inglesby Road, Camberwell.
The Victorian Electoral Commission will post and update details on its website, although experience has shown that many candidates leave it until the last minute to nominate.
All Victorian councils bar one are holding elections this year. While some councils – such as neighbouring Stonnington – will have attendance voting on Saturday, October 27, Boroondara’s poll will be postal. Ballot packs will be mailed on October 9–10 and must be returned by 6pm on Friday, October 26, when voting closes.
All residents aged 18 to 70 years who are on the state electoral roll must vote in council elections, whether they are ratepayers or not. A failure to vote by eligible voters can incur a $70 fine.
The rolls have now closed for this election. To check if you are on the roll, or whether your details were updated in time, you can call the Boroondara election office from today (September 19) on 9804 0028. Boroondara’s electoral officer is Graeme Cobb.
Most council election results are expected to be know by the evening of Sunday, October 28.
