REMOTE inland towns like Mount Isa have been called on to “harden up” and prepare themselves for severe weather predictions.
With summer around the corner, Green Cross Australia is encouraging people in North West Queensland to prepare for storm season using an interactive website called Harden Up – Protecting Queensland.
Harden up – Protecting Queensland is an innovative disaster resilience portal offering local residents information and tools they need to get ready for severe weather it also features an interactive planning tool that can be personalised to suit a person’s dwelling type and living situation.
The website, www.hardenup南京夜网, hosts historical weather information for the local and greater NorthWest area in the Carpentaria Shire over a 150 year time span.
Meteorological trends for the Gulf Country by the Queensland Climate Change Centre of Excellence project escalating heat potentially leading to more frequent and intense storms.
A spokesperson from The Weather Channel said they were currently working on the severe weather outlook for the region, due for release this week.
Green Cross Australia chief executive officer Mara B n said the portal was designed to meet the needs of Queenslanders with a user-friendly website to understand their local area and learn practical ways to get ready for future severe weather events.
“Harden Up was born out of the need to prepare for the future by understanding the past.
“Everyday Queenslanders needed a comprehensive tool with basic know-how and simple tips on how to prepare their home, family and community for whatever conditions the weather might bring.
“Knowledge is a powerful tool, and Harden Up empowers Queenslanders to mitigate the likely hazards with tailored tips for their homes and weather events to design their own preparedness plan.”
