Police questioned the man.A MEMBER of the Wards River Rural Fire Brigade has been charged with allegedly stealing equipment from his own station.
Police said they questioned the 30-year-old male from the Stroud area in relation to a burglary at the fire station on August 30. During a search of the man’s property police allegedly uncovered a number of the stolen items including water pumps and chainsaws.
Police said the man denied stealing the items, claiming he purchased them six months earlier.
Serial numbers on the items are understood to have positively identified them as the same pieces of equipment stolen from the fire station in late August.
The man was placed under arrest and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with goods in custody.
Police said the man was also spoken to in relation to other incidents including failing to pay for $60 worth of petrol from a station at Bulahdelah in March and theft from a home in Stroud.
Police said once the man was at the station he was also spoken to about other incidents of theft.
He is set to face court in Dungog next month.
