The Guyra Ghosts have fought hard this year, but no harder than in the Semi Final decider against the Armidale Blues. The Blues secured an early lead over the Ghosts and led the entire game.
Auckland had scored the only try in the first half and the score at half time was 14-5. Armidale were first to score after the break, so were looking pretty confident leading 21-5. The Ghosts never gave up, Marlee Tawahai and Brodie Baxter both scoring tries to level the playing field at 21-19 with 8 minutes remaining on the clock.
Guyra fought to get points on the board and in the dying minutes of the game managed to get close enough to the line for Mal Gaukroger to kick a field goal, bringing the score to 22-21 securing the Ghosts a spot in the 2012 Grand Final.
The Grand Final will be held this weekend, 8 September, at Bellevue Oval. The Ghosts kickoff against the UNE Barbarians at 12:00pm. A supporter’s bus will be leaving from the Royal Hotel at 10:30am, so come along and cheer on the Guyra boys.
