The set is designed to encourage community engagement in an outdoor setting with an activity that is fun and stimulating. It is expected to be a drawcard for tourists visiting the area and will adjoin the existing playground area.

Checking out a similar chess set last week at Boneo Maze, Cr Smith said it would add vibrancyto the foreshore — “it’s something forpeople to do out in the sun”. The chessset will replace the formerdecommissioned helicopter pad, where new piping will be installed to prevent flooding.
