CRONULLA’S Brazilian-born lightweight Bernardo “Trekko” Magalhaes scored an impressive victory on the Pround Warrior Production mixed martial arts fight night at Sharkies Leagues Club on Friday night.
Up against Manly’s strong fighter, Sonny Brown, Trekko’s close study of his opponent paid off, winning the fight after some solid ground and pound.
“It is such a good feeling, it is always great to fight in Cronulla, all the guys from the gym and supporters are around, it’s a dream come true to have this support and win at home,” said Trekko.
“Everything went really well, what I thought was going to happen in the cage did happen, I was getting more confident as it went on.
“He came to me and was really aggressive and when you study a fighter it’s really important to know what your opponent wants”.
Supporting Trekko on the fight card were TP Gym/Double Dragon teammates, Ben Lewis and Zein Saliba. Saliba showed his wrestling skills with a superb display of takedowns to earn a unanimous points decision over Marc Gehret. Ben Lewis was taken out with a technical knockout by Jon Marco Sanchez (Full Circle MMA) in what most considered was the fight of the night.
In the semi-main event, Spanish fighter Oriol Gaset (KMA Liverpool) wasted no time in taking down Jacob Pettett (Gracie Central Coast) and submitting him with a deep arm bar.
Special guest and world boxing champion Danny Green took time out do some commentating.
“This is a great set-up and the atmosphere for a local show is great,” Green said. “I appreciate anyone who gets in there and has a go; these guys put it all on the line.”
